OSHKOSH, Wis. – The Gustavus gymnastics team Saturday dropped a WIAC dual meet 183.825-179.450 at UW-Oshkosh.

“Today was a big test for us,” Head Coach Aryn DeGrood said. “We made a lot of mistakes and have things we need to clean up. We struggled on both bars and beam as a whole. Floor and vault were very solid for us.”

The Gusties scored 46.200 on the floor and 45.875 on vault, while tallying 43.975 on beam and 43.400 on bars.

Amanda Malo (Sr., Greenwood, Minn.) won the floor with a 9.5 and took third in the all-around at 36.125. Sophia Redding (Fy., St. Paul, Minn.) took second on both the vault (9.3) and bars (9.325). Katy Trunk (Sr., North Branch, Minn.) led the team on the beam with a 9.175 to take third.

“While we had struggles, there were also positive things that happened and that’s what we will focus on moving forward,” DeGrood said. “Malo winning floor is a big confidence booster and something that was very well deserved. Katy Trunk was outstanding today. She competed for us on bars today for the first time in her career after learning a new dismount this week.”

Gustavus next travels to Winona State on Tuesday night.

“Luckily, we get the chance to get back on track with a very quick turnaround and another meet on Tuesday,” DeGrood said.
