SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s basketball team is back home Saturday as it plays host to Concordia for a 1 p.m. conference tilt at Gus Young Court. The Gusties enter the game 8-8 overall and 5-4 in the MIAC, while the Cobbers are 7-9 overall and 4-5 in the league. The Gusties also welcome back a number of alums for their annual Alumni Day.
THE SERIES
Saturday’s game marks the 79th meeting between Gustavus and Concordia with the Cobbers leading the all-time series 54-24. The Gusties have won the past four matchups, most recently claiming a decisive 84-47 victory on Jan. 6 last season.
SCOUTING THE GUSTIES
After dropping four of five games, Gustavus got back on track Wednesday with a 74-65 win at Macalester. Through 16 games, the Gusties average 65.8 points and allow 59.4 per game, while shooting 39.5 percent from the floor. They rank third in the MIAC in both assists (14.5) and steals (12.9) per game. Kendall Thompson and Justine Lee lead the offense with 13.5 points per game apiece. Thompson also leads the team in rebounding (5.7) and steals (52). Lee has made the most three-pointers, going 22-73 from beyond the arc.
SCOUTING THE COBBERS
Concordia has lost its past two games after going on a four-game winning streak. The Cobbers most recently lost 68-66 to Saint Mary’s on Wednesday. They average 64.6 points and allow 67.6 per game, while shooting 40.2 percent from the field. The Cobbers are the third best three-point team in the MIAC, converting at 34.1 percent. Mira Ellefson leads the offense with 12.9 points per game with a 40.5 shooting percentage. Grace Wolhowe also average double figures with 10.8 points per game. Kirstin Simmons is a presence down on the blocks with a team-best 7.5 rebounds per game.
