SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s hockey team will play their final non-conference game of the 2018-19 regular season on Tuesday when they host UW-Superior for a 7 p.m. contest. The Gusties enter the contest at 8-4-2 overall while the Yellowjackets are 7-10-1.
The Series
Tuesday’s contest marks the 26th meeting between the two teams with the Gusties holding a 17-5-3 advantage. The two teams met earlier this season with Gustavus taking home a 2-1 victory.
Scouting the Gusties
The Gusties come into the contest most recently tying No. 4 St. Thomas on Saturday by a score of 2-2. This season, the Gusties have been led on the attack by Allie Stanger (Sr., Paynesville, Minn.) who has 11 points (6g, 5a) and Kristina Press (Fy., Cottage Grove, Minn.) with 10 (5g, 5a). On special teams, Gustavus has scored on 7-of-50 (14.0 percent) power plays this season and they have successfully killed 38-of-45 (84.4 percent) of their penalties. Amanda DiNella (Sr., Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.) has started all 14 games in net for Gustavus, allowing 24 goals while making 311 saves for a .928 save percentage.
Scouting the Yellowjackets
UW-Superior is most recently coming off a 4-2 win over Concorida (Wis.) on Saturday. The Yellowjackets have been led this year by Kaleigh Martinson who has recorded 20 points (12g, 8a) and Molly Shelton with 15 (5g, 10a). Superior has been solid on power plays this season scoring on 10-of-67 (14.9 percent) but have only killed off 51-of-69 (73.9 percent) of penalties. Catherine Johnson has started 14 games in net this season allowing 36 goals while making 359 saves for a save percentage of .909.
