Trio of Gusties Named United Soccer Coaches All-North Region Posted on November 27th, 2018 by

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – United Soccer Coaches released its All-Region Teams on Monday and three Gustavus men’s soccer players were named to the All-North Region Teams. Forward Matt Gibbons (So., Minneapolis, Minn.) is on the First Team, forward Arthur Parens (Sr., Wayzata, Minn.) is on the Second Team, and keeper Anders Severson (Sr., Woodbury, Minn.) is on the Third Team.

Gibbons earns First Team All-North honors for the first time after being named MIAC All-Conference with a league-leading 25 points on seven goals and 11 assists. Gibbons also led the conference with 62 shots and tallied four game-winning goals. He was instrumental in the game-winning goal to clinch the MIAC championship at Macalester with a free kick assist.

Parens makes an appearance on the All-Region Team for the second consecutive season. Parens also garnered his third consecutive All-Conference honor, becoming the first Gustavus player to do so since Zach Brown and David Lilly (2012-14). Parens posted a team best 10 goals this season, which ranks second in the MIAC. He also had three game-winning goals, including the MIAC championship clincher.

Severson finished his career as an All-Region Team member after starting in 16 matches this season. Severson posted a 0.71 goals against average and a .838 save percentage in over 1,400 minutes in goal. He was a part of six shutouts and tallied an impressive 12-2-1 record.
