EAU-CLAIRE, Wis. – The Gustavus women’s hockey team traveled to Eau Claire on Saturday night and came away with a 2-2 tie.
The Gusties got the goal scoring early when Kristina Press (Fy., Cottage Grove, Minn.) scored her first collegiate goal, and second point of the season off an assist from Allie Stanger (Sr., Paynesville, Minn.).
The game from there on out went very back and forth with Eau-Claire scoring midway through the second period before the Gusties answered back with less than 30 seconds to play in the second period when Laine Fischer (Sr., Northfield, Minn.) recorded her first points of the season with an unassisted goal.
The Gusties clung to their one goal lead until the Blugolds found the back of the net at the 7:41 mark of the third period to even the game at 2-2.
The Gusties and Blugolds played the rest of regulation and the overtime period scoreless, and the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Amanda DiNella (Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.) was exceptional in net for Gusties as she recorded 51 saves while allowing just the two goals.
The Gusties will start their conference season Friday when they travel to St. Olaf for a 7:30 contest.
