SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s soccer team had its senior day on Wednesday afternoon in the last home game of the season and ended in a 0-0 tie with Hamline after 110 minutes of scoreless play. The Gusties record moves to 5-10-2 with a 2-6-2 MIAC record while the Pipers move to 4-11-2 with a 1-8-1 conference record.

The Gusties controlled possession for a majority of the game and also outshot the Pipers by the large margin of 26-11. The Gusties also put nine shots on goal compared to just six from Hamline. Part of the reason for the lack of scoring was great play by the goaltenders from both teams. Abby Goodno (Fy., Little Canada, Minn.) got the start in net for the Gusties and made saves on all six of her opportunities.

Chase Miller (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led the Gustie offense as she took nine shots on the day with three being on goal. Sally Morrow (Sr., Saint Peter, Minn.) was the other Gustie with multiple shots on net as she had two.

After the contest, coach Laura Burnett-Kurie said, “It was a special day honoring our six incredible seniors. It’s important to celebrate the success this senior class has had at Gustavus as well as recognize the massive impact they’ve had in establishing a strong culture of excellence. We will certainly miss them moving forward but we are so glad we have one final game with them on Saturday.”

The Gusties conclude their 2018 season on Saturday as they head to Macalester for a 1 p.m. contest.
