LAKE CITY, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s golf team finished play at the Division III Classic on Sunday with a fifth place finish. The Gusties didn’t see the same success they had in day one as they shot a 325 on day two, which was ten shots more than their first day of competition. Carleton came away from the tournament victorious defeating second place Saint Benedict by 19 strokes.
On the second round, Head Coach Scott Moe said, “Today wasn’t our best day. Our players had some bad stretches during the round today that we were unable to recover from. We will learn from today and be better next time we compete.”
Emily Kratz (Fy., Edina, Minn.) finished her solid tournament with a day two 80 to take home sixth place overall with a 151 (+7). Ellie Brandt (Sr., Wayzata, Minn.) played well on day two with a 78 to to put her in a tie for 20th. Erin Ericson (Fy., Onalaska, Wis.) shot a second day 83 and she also finished in a tie for 20th with Brandt posting a two day total of 161 (+17).
“Emily had a nice tournament for us finishing in 6th place,” said Coach Moe. “We’re really looking forward to the opportunity to compete at the NCAA preview next weekend in Houston. We will need to tidy up some parts of our game this week and be mentally ready for an outstanding tournament.”
The Gusties will head down to Houston on Sept. 24 and 25 for the NCAA Division III Preview.
