EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The No. 9 Gustavus volleyball team lost a five-set match (18-25, 19-25, 25-19, 25-18, 13-15) Friday night against UW-Eau Claire, host of the Sandy Schumacher Memorial.
”We had a slow start,” Head Coach Rachelle Sherden said. “Our serve and pass was off in the first two sets. I’m proud the girls caught back; we adjusted and got back to our game in the next two sets. The fifth set was back and forth and unfortunately we fell short and made a few more errors.”
Kate Holtan (So., Rochester, Minn.) led the attack with 12 kills and added 15 digs for a double-double. Nora Holtan (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) distributed 37 assists, and Brittany Luethmers (Sr., Prior Lake, Minn.) recorded a team-high 24 digs.
UW-Eau Claire had nine service aces compared to Gustavus’s seven. The Gusties’ 14 blocks was a season high.
The Gusties move to 8-2 and Saturday face Edgewood at noon and Lakeland at 2 p.m.
