SAINT. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s soccer team hosted Nebraska Wesleyan in the 2nd annual team Trina game and the Gusties came away with a 1-0 victory. With the win, Gustavus moves to 2-1 on the season, while Nebraska Wesleyan falls to 3-1.

“We had a huge turn out for our Second Annual Team Trina Game today and the match didn’t disappoint,” said Head Coach Laura Burnett-Kurie. “Nebreaska Welsleyan provided some tough competition and it took us a bit to get into the flow of the game. Once we started to move the ball and go back to the roots of our Gustie tempo we settled down and looked fantastic.”

The game remained scoreless for the first 30 minutes until Emily Skogseth (Sr., Burnsville, Minn.) scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal. Kenna West (Fy., Owatonna, Minn.) and Abby Mullenbach (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) received the assist on the play as West crossed the ball to Mullenbach who headed it to Skogseth for the chip-in goal.

The Prairie Wolves outshot the Gusties 14 to 11 in the match but Abby Goodno’s (Little Canada, Minn.) impressive play held Nebraska Wesleyan at bay. On the contest, Goodno recorded 10 saves and recorded her first collegiate shutout.

“The second half was a battle but we once agiain showed our heart and resilience by fighting until the end. Getting a win in our first home game is a great feeling and we are excited for another tough match-up tomorrow against Wartburg,” Burnett-Kurie said.

The Gusties will be back at it again on Sunday for a 3 pm contest versus Wartburg.
