ST. PETER, Minn. – The No. 1 seeded Gustavus women’s tennis team defeated the No. 2 seeded Carleton College 5-2 Saturday afternoon at Swanson Tennis Center to claim the program’s third consecutive and eighth overall Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Playoff Championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament.

Lily Hartman’s 6-4, 7-5 win at the No. 5 singles position clinched the win for the Gusties. After going down 1-0 with a loss at No. 2 doubles, Gustavus answered with wins at the other doubles spots and wins at No. 1 and No. 6 singles set up a 4-2 Gustie lead.

“From the very first point, the girls brought the highest level of competitiveness and intensity that I have ever coached in my 28 years,” said Head Coach Jon Carlson. “It was truly an inspiring day on every single court. Carleton played very well but our girls stepped up. Having all six players playing at their highest level of effort is every coach’s dream and I got my dream today.”
