ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus baseball team returns to action this weekend with two Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheaders versus Concordia and Macalester. The Gusties (11-12, 3-5 MIAC) will face the Cobbers (12-13, 5-5 MIAC) in Moorhead on Saturday prior to hosting the Scots (15-12, 5-5 MIAC) on Sunday during senior day.
Senior Day
A special tribute is made to the individuals who have dedicated themselves to Gustavus baseball throughout their collegiate careers. The Athletics Department, coaching staff, parents, and fans salute the seven student-athletes who have represented Gustavus with pride and class. Student-athletes honored on Sunday for their years of commitment include Will Burley (St. Louis Park, Minn.), Alex Eichner (Hamburg, Minn.), Cam Hufendick (Minneapolis, Minn.), Nolan Lepel (Plato, Minn.), Casey Lewandoski (Fairbanks, Alaska), John Lundquist (Rochester, Minn.), and Brock Peterson (Cannon Falls, Minn.).
Last Time Out
The Gusties traveled to Arden Hills, Minn. on Wednesday and were swept at Bethel University with 4-1 and 7-5 losses. The Royals’ John Leach hit two three-run homers to dagger Gustavus.
The Series
Saturday’s games will mark the 114th and 115th all-time meetings between the Gustavus and Concordia baseball programs, with the Cobbers owning an 60-53 series advantage. Concordia swept the Gusties last season in St. Peter with 1-0 and 9-5 wins.
Sunday’s games will mark the 142nd and 143rd all-time meetings between the Gustavus and Macalester baseball programs, with the Gusties owning an 98-42-1 series advantage. Macalester swept the Gusties last season with 6-2 and 4-3 victories.

- Nearly of the team’s runs batted in have come from Gustie first-years, as the freshmen have accounted for 53 of 111 RBI. Ethan Mocchi (Champlin, Minn.) is the RBI leader with 21 (T-8th/MIAC).
- First year middle infielders Cole Pengilly (Le Sueur, Minn.) and Carter Clemensen (Cologne, Minn.) have started in all 23 games.
- Pengilly is tied for the lead in the MIAC with four triples, while owning a team-best 27 hits in 74 at bats.
- Mocchi ranks second in the conference with 11 doubles.
- On the mound, Charlie Hutchinson (Fy., Maple Grove, Minn.) is the team leader with 19 strikeouts in 23.2 innings pitched.
- In five starts, Adam Stockwell (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn.) has allowed just three earned runs and owns a 1.19 ERA in 22.2 innings pitched.
