Women’s Golf Finishes Sixth At Wartburg Invite

The Gustavus women’s golf team dropped nine strokes during round two of the Wartburg College Spring Invite to earn a sixth place finish of 12 teams, finishing with a two-day total of 655.

WAVERLY, Iowa – The Gustavus women’s golf team dropped nine strokes during round two of the Wartburg College Spring Invite to earn a sixth place finish of 12 teams, finishing with a two-day total of 655.

“Today’s round was a much better effort by the team because of their focus and execution on the course,” said Assistant Coach Randy Stuckey. “I like the way we bounced back after yesterday.”

McKenzie Swenson (Sr., Buffalo, Minn.) led the Gusties, turning in her second-straight top-three finish. After a day one score of 78, Swenson improved with a round two score of 75, finishing +9 at 153 to tie for third place.

Jessica Nelson (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) was second-best for the Black and Gold, carding an 81 both round to take 17th. Morgan Bleyhl (So., Elk River, Minn.) moved up from 29th place to 20th after dropping six strokes, while Ellie Brandt (Jr., Wayzata, Minn.) carded two score of 87 to tie for 38th, and Kennedy Sommerfeld (Jr., Litchfield, Minn.) tied for 41st with duplicate rounds of 88.

“Swenson has had a great couple of weekends,” said Stuckey. “Right now all aspects of her game are solid and it is fun to see her excel in her senior spring. Her hard work is really paying off.”

Next up, the Gusties are slated to compete at the Carleton College Invitational in Northfield, Minn. next weekend.
