BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its Athlete of the Week award winner for women’s tennis on Tuesday and Gustavus’s Katie Aney (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) was honored with the distinction.
Gustavus competed at the Midwest Invitational in Madison, Wis. over the weekend, going 1-2 against three ranked opponents. The Gusties defeated No. 39-ranked DePauw University 6-3 prior to falling 8-1 versus No. 10-ranked University of Chicago and 7-2 against Kenyon College. Aney stood out for the Black and Gold as she was unbeaten during singles play.
Competing at the No. 3 singles position, Aney went 3-0 as her performance was highlighted by earning the team’s sole point against the University of Chicago, winning 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. She has won her last eight singles matches, with her last loss coming in February at Division I Butler.
The Gusties (8-7, 4-0 MIAC) have four matches ahead this weekend, heading to Hamline University and Macalester College on Saturday before hosting Southwest Minnesota State University and Minnesota State University on Sunday.
