ST. PETER, Minn. – The National Association of College Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) announced its postseason awards Monday and Gustavus coach Tyler Oare has been named West Region Assistant Coach of the Year. The award was voted on by West Region coaches at the NCGA Championships.
Oare helped the Gusties achieve two of the top-five team scores in program history this season, including a 185.725 at the WIAC/NCGA West Regional to take fifth place, marking the best finish by Gustavus since 2004. He also helped guide the team to a school record beam score of 45.900 at the conference meet.
The Assistant Coach of the Year award marks the second consecutive season the Gustavus coaching staff has been recognized as Aryn DeGrood was named WIAC Coach of the Year last year. Oare just completed his fourth season as DeGrood’s assistant.
Doug Byrnes of Hamline was named West Region Head Coach of the Year.
