GLOUCESTER, Mass. – Gustavus women’s hockey student-athletes Amanda DiNella (Jr., Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.) and Kaitlyn Klein (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) were selected as 2018 CCM/AHCA Women’s Division III All-Americans, released on Thursday night. For the second consecutive season, DiNella was named the West First Team goaltender, while Klein garnered Second Team honors. DiNella and Klein capture the program’s 24th and 25th All-American awards in the 21-year history of women’s hockey at the College.
Now a two-time All-American, the first since Lindsey Hjelm (2012, 13), DiNella backstopped the Gusties in 26 games this season with 25 starts. She played 1519:30 minutes between the pipes with a 1.38 goals against average (10th/NCAA), .931 save percentage, and a 17-4-4 record. DiNella recorded six shutouts this season and will enter her senior season with 15 in her career. She also made a career-high 474 saves this season to put her career total at 1194, which ranks second in program history – 222 behind record holder Danielle Justice (2008-12). After three seasons as the Gusties’ top goalie, DiNella has a 1.59 goals against average, .924 save percentage, and a 34-18-10 record.
Klein becomes the first Gustie forward to be named All-American since both Mollie Carroll (2008-12) and Allie Schwab (2008-12) earned the distinction after the 2011-12 season. Klein led the Gusties this season with 23 goals and 42 points. Her 19 assists were also tied for the team lead. The Wayzata product ranks seventh in the country with 0.82 goals per game and 12th in points per game at 1.5. Klein finished her career with 43 goals and 36 assists for 79 points. She also tallied a +39 rating with 15 power play goals and 13 game-winning goals.
