ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s basketball team is set to conclude its season series with St. Olaf College Saturday afternoon, heading to Northfield, Minn. The Gusties (10-7, 8-4 MIAC) and the Oles (12-5, 8-4 MIAC) are set to tipoff at 1 p.m. from Skoglund Center.

The Series

Saturday’s game marks the 155th meeting between Gustavus and St. Olaf on the hardwood, with the Gusties holding a 96-58 advantage in the all-time series. Gustavus snapped a 10-game losing streak against the Oles earlier this season, earning a 67-62 victory at Gus Young Court on Dec. 2.

Last Time Out

The Gusties held on for a slim victory during a back-and-forth battle with the University of St. Thomas Wednesday evening at Gus Young Court, ending a seven-game losing streak versus the Tommies with a 69-68 win. Gustavus shot 57.1 percent from the field, going 28-49 and 6-15 from three-point range, including a season-best 64 percent (16-25) in the second half. St. Thomas shot 45.5 percent (25-55) and out-rebounded the Gusties 32-25. A collective effort paced the Gustavus offense, with Vannis Smith (So., Crystal Lake, Ill.) leading the way with 13 points.

Scouting St. Olaf

The Oles, riding a three-game winning streak, most recently defeated Saint Mary’s University 82- 59 on Wednesday in Winona, Minn. Last Saturday, St. Olaf posted a season-high 98 points during a win over Concordia College, while the Oles allow 65.3 points per game (2nd/MIAC). Junior forward Austin Korba and sophomore guard Nate Albers pace the St. Olaf offense, averaging 13.6 and 13.1 points per game, respectively. Senior forward Robert Tobroxen also adds 12.7 points per game and leads the team with 6.1 rebounds per game.

Gustavus Notables

  • The Gusties matched their win total from last season with the Dec. 6 victory at Augsburg.
  • Wednesday’s win over St. Thomas snapped a seven-game losing streak versus the Tommies. The last Gustie win over UST was on Dec. 3, 2014 at Gus Young Court.
  • The Gusties shot a season-best 64 percent from the field during the second half versus St. Thomas, shooting 16-25.
  • Peter Lundquist (Fy., Rochester, Minn.) tallied a career-high 10 points versus UST, shooting 4-4 from the field.
  • Riley Sharbono (Jr., Marshall, Minn.) leads the the MIAC with a 70-for- 83 clip from the free throw line.
  • Gustavus owns an 8-1 record when Sharbono sinks at least four free throws.
