LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Gustavus gymnastics team traveled to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Friday evening for a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual, falling by a score of 174.275-187.875.
“Tonight was rough,” said Head Coach Aryn DeGrood. “Lots of things went wrong. We have to make adjustments and move forward. We tried some new things today and some things went great and others not as much. This sport is about hitting routines and right now we aren’t getting it done so now we need to fix the problems and get back out there next Saturday and do what we know we can do.”
Gustavus scored 45.950 on vault, 41.800 on bars, 43.025 on beam, and 43.500 on floor.
The top finishes from the Gusties came from Amanda Malo (Jr., Greenwood, Minn.) and Jamie Erdely (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.). Malo came in sixth in the vault, scoring 9.250, while Erdely scored an 8.925 to finish sixth in the beam.
Malo and Emily Anderson (Sr., Mendota Heights, Minn.) were the only two all-around competitors, with Malo scoring 35.150 followed by 34.375 from Anderson.
The Gusties return to action next Saturday, heading to Whitewater, Wis. for another conference dual meet against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
