DULUTH, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team was blanked 3-0 Friday evening at the College of St. Scholastica, surrendering three power play goals against the Saints at Mars Lakeview Arena.
The Gusties, now 6-4-1 overall, had their winning streak end at four games, being shut out for the first time in 2017-18.
Special teams turned out to be vital as St. Scholastica went 3-for-6 on the man advantage while turning away three Gustie power play opportunities.
Chris Amsden’s (Jr., St. Peter, Minn.) two-game shutout streak was snapped midway through the second period. Dominic Picciano (Fy., Minnetonka, Minn.) was called for a boarding call and on the ensuing faceoff, Brett Radford gave the Saints the eventual game-winner with a one-timer from the point.
St. Scholastica would add two more power play goals in the third period, while Gustavus was unable to put one past Saint’s goaltender Zane Steeves, out-shooting the home team 25-20.
Evan Erickson (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) and Caleb Anderson (Fy., Sioux Falls, S.D.) led the Gusties with four shots on goal each.
The Black and Gold will take two weekends off during the holiday break prior to returning to action Dec. 29-30, heading to Geneva, Ill. for a non-conference series with Aurora University.
