BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – For the second time this season, Gustavus swimmer Tanner Sonnek (Jr., North Mankato, Minn.) has been named MIAC Swimmer of the Week after his impressive performance at Grinnell’s Pioneer Classic on Friday and Saturday. Sonnek helped the Gusties claim first place out of 11 teams at the Pioneer Classic, claiming the top spot in both the 100 IM (53.10) and 200 breaststroke (2:05.55). The Mankato West product was also a member of the winning 200 freestyle relay team (1:27.52).
Sonnek took second in the 100 breaststroke, third in the 200 IM, and sixth in the 100 butterfly. He was also a member of the second place 200 medley relay, third place 400 medley relay, and fourth place 400 freestyle relay teams.
Sonnek’s times of 57.27 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:05.55 in the 200 breaststroke rank first on the MIAC performance list, while his 1:58.45 in the 200 IM ranks third.
Gustavus has now claimed four of six MIAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week awards this season – two for Sonnek and two for Nolan Larson (Fy., Wes Des Moines, Iowa).
