ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s soccer team dropped its regular season finale 1-0 to Macalester on Saturday at the Gustie Soccer Field. The Gusties end the regular season 9-5-3 overall and 5-4-2 in the MIAC, while the Scots end their season 7-6-4 overall and 4-4-3 in the league.

“We fought hard and battled,” Head Coach Laura Burnett-Kurie said. “There were times where we turned it on and hit a different level and there were times that we got caught up, so we just need to turn it on right from the get-go and play 90 minutes that way. How hard we fought is a good tribute to the seniors. It was fun to see Emily Odermatt move up the field, I think she got her four-year wish of being more of an attacking player.”

Macalester scored the lone goal of the game at the 23:22 mark of the first period. The Gusties outshot the Scots 17-5 and had nine more corner kick opportunities, but were unable to get the ball in the back of the net.

“The big thing moving forward is pairing up our hard work with composure on the ball and recognizing the situations we’re in and making sure that we finish our chances,” Burnett-Kurie said.

The Gusties enter the MIAC playoffs as the No. 6 seed and will travel to the No. 3 seed on Tuesday for a 2 p.m. game. The No. 3 seed will be either Augsburg, St. Thomas, or St. Olaf.
