NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the MIAC Championships Saturday, hosted by St. Olaf, with the women taking fourth place and the men finishing eighth. Carleton won both the men’s and women’s conference titles.

Sadie Klug (Sr., Waseca, Minn.) and Andrew Stumbo (Fy., Boone, Iowa) earned All-Conference for the Gusties. Klug finished the women’s 6k race ninth in 22:54.6, while Stumbo crossed the men’s 8k finish line fifth with a season-best time of 25:52.4. Olivia Rosenow (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.) earned All-Conference honorable mention with a 23rd place finish in 23:26.1

“When knew Andrew could perform at this level and he put his name on the map today,” Head Coach Brenden Huber said. “It’s fun to watch him compete. We had a plan for him and he executed very well. And we knew Sadie was a top-ten runner in the conference. She maybe didn’t have her A-plus race today, but she had a great effort and that’s exactly what we needed out of her.”

On the women’s squad, Sarah Anderson (So., Roseville, Minn.) took 27th in 23:38.0, Tierney Winter (So., Waterville, Minn.) took 32nd in 23:49.2, Abigail Schnabel (Jr., Hamburg, Minn.) took 35th in 23:53.9, Kourtney Kulseth (Fy., New Richland, Minn.) took 40th in 24:08.0, and Gabby Passmore (So., Mapleton, Minn.) took 42nd in 24:10.4.

On the men’s side, Alex Wischnack (Jr., Norwood, Minn.) finished 36th in 27:01.5, Brennan Gustafson (Fy., Kasson, Minn.) took 43rd in 27:14.1, Ryley Sandberg (Sr., Alleman, Iowa) took 44th in 27:14.8, Ben Madigan (Jr., Kohler, Wis.) took 47th in 27:18.3, Nick Kerbeshian (Fy., Plymouth, Minn.) took 53rd in 27:35.5, and Bridger Pavelka (So., Minnetonka, Minn.) took 59th in 27:52.6.

“Both teams competed really well,” Huber said. “The men were 20 points out of fifth place. On the women’s side we were shooting for St. Thomas, but they were the better team today.”

The Gusties next compete Friday at the Saint John’s Fall Invite, which begins at 5 p.m. The NCAA Regionals are Nov. 11 in Northfield, Minn.
