Kate Holtan Named MIAC Volleyball Hitter Of The Week

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its Volleyball Athlete of the Week awards this afternoon, with Gustavus leading attacker Kate Holtan (Fy., Rochester, Minn.) earning the Hitter of the Week honor.   

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its Volleyball Athlete of the Week awards this afternoon, with Gustavus leading attacker Kate Holtan (Fy., Rochester, Minn.) earning the Hitter of the Week honor.   

Holtan led the Gustavus offense to a 4-0 week as the team improved its winning-streak to six games and its overall record to 19-3 on the season. Prior to sweeping St. Olaf College on Wednesday, the Black and Gold went unbeaten at the Wartburg College Invitational, defeating Wisconsin-La Crosse, Wartburg, and Luther College.

In four matches, Holtan tallied 55 kills and averaged 3.9 kills per set. In the first match of the Wartburg Invite versus UW-La Crosse, Holtan recorded a season-high 19 kills on 39 attempts to post an efficient .436 attack percentage. During the following match against Wartburg, Holtan picked up a double-double with 16 kills and a season-high 16 digs.

This week’s award is Holtan’s second of 2017, as she previously earned MIAC Hitter of the Week laurels on Sept. 18.

Gustavus returns to action on Wednesday for a conference matchup versus the University of St. Thomas. The Gusties entertain the Tommies at 7 p.m. at Gus Young Court.
