Volleyball Set For UW-Eau Claire Tournament Posted on September 14th, 2017 by

ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus volleyball team is set for another non-conference tournament, heading to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire for the Nike/Eastbay Fall Classic this weekend with four matches ahead.

The Gusties open the tournament on Friday against the University of Minnesota-Morris and UW-Eau Claire. Day two of the tournament is set with matches against the University of Chicago and Lakeland University.

Gusties open conference slate with sweep at Hamline

Gustavus opened Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday evening in St. Paul, Minn., taking down Hamline University in three sets, 25-16, 25-9, 25-19.

Gustavus vs. UM-Morris | Friday, 3 p.m. | WATCH

  • Gustavus is 15-6 all-time against Minnesota-Morris, with the Gusties winning 3-0 in the latest meeting, last season.
  • The Cougars are currently riding a four-game win streak, earning four wins at the New England Invitational last weekend and improving their overall record to 7-2.

  • Friday evening’s matchup will mark the 20th all-time matchup, with UW-Eau Claire holding a 12-7 advantage over the Gusties. Last season, Gustavus defeated UWEC 3-2.
  • The Blugolds own a 4-4 overall record, most recently defeating Edgewood College and going 2-1 over the weekend at the Augsburg Invitational.

  • Saturday’s matchup will mark first ever meeting between the Gusties and the Maroons.
  • Chicago received votes in the most recent AVCA Volleyball Coaches’ Poll, having compiled a 5-2 record to begin 2017.

  • Gustavus is 3-1 all-time against the Muskies, with the Gusties sweeping Lakeland last weekend at the UW-Stevens Point Tournament.
  • Lakeland is 2-8 overall on the season, most recently falling 3-1 in its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener at Concordia University Wisconsin.
