Alhouni And Whaling Set For Men’s Tennis Individual Championships

Mohanad Alhouni (Jr., Tripoli, Libya) and Patrick Whaling (So., Manikob Sabot, Va.) will compete in the 2017 Division III Men’s Tennis singles and doubles championships starting tomorrow morning in Chattanooga, Tenn.

ST. PETER, Minn. – Mohanad Alhouni (Jr., Tripoli, Libya) and Patrick Whaling (So., Manikob Sabot, Va.) will compete in the 2017 Division III Men’s Tennis singles and doubles championships starting tomorrow morning in Chattanooga, Tenn.

For the individual championships, the national committee selected seven singles players and three doubles teams from each of the four regions. Additionally, the committee then selected the remaining four singles players and four doubles team berths from a national at-large pool. The selection of teams and individuals for the championships is based on win-lost record, strength of schedule, and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.

Alhouni will take part in the 32-individual singles draw, coming in as the No. 4 seed and set to play Chase Lipscomb of the University of Redlands Thursday morning at The Champions Club Tennis Complex. In the afternoon, Alhouni and Whaling will pair up in the 16-team doubles draw, competing against Joey Dulle and Jake Ly of Redlands.

Holding down the No. 1 singles spot for the Gusties, Alhouni ranks as the No. 1 player in the ITA Division III Central Region. The ITA singles champion owns a 34-5 singles record and earned his third-consecutive Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Conference singles and doubles team honors following the regular season. Alhouni and Whaling own a 21-9 doubles position in the No. 1 position for the Black and Gold and rank fifth in the Central Region. They went unbeaten at during conference play, going 6-0.

Lipscomb of the Redlands Bulldogs ranks as the No. 5 player in the ITA West Region, leading the team with a 13-7 singles mark in the No. 1 position. The pair of Dulle and Ly rank as the No. 3 doubles team in the West Region and own a 14-9 No. 1 doubles record.
