ST. PETER, Minn. – The No. 31-ranked Gustavus men’s tennis team is set to close out non-conference play this weekend is West Bend, Wis., facing DePauw University on Sunday prior to facing the No. 5-ranked University of Chicago.
Last time out: The Gusties most recently competed March 26-31 in its Texas spring trip. Gustavus returned with a 2-4 record, facing stiff competition with four of the six opponents being ranked teams. Yassine Derbani (Fy., Casablanca, Morocco) earned MIAC Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week, playing a role in seven of the Gusties’ 17 team points. Derbani participated in four of the team’s six matches, going 3-1 in singles while being undefeated at 4-0 during doubles play, all against ranked opponents. He played a key role in big wins over No. 39-ranked Southwestern University and No. 17 University of Texas at Tyler, winning in both singles and doubles spots.
