BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Following a second place finish at the 2017 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships over the weekend, the MIAC recognized the Women’s Swimming and Diving Awards, Wednesday.
As a team, the Gustie women collected 12 all-conference awards at the MIAC Championships.
Kate Reilly (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) led Gustavus, claiming three individual all-conference awards as well as contributing to four all-conference relay finishes. Reilly finished third in each the 50-yard freestyle (23.54), 100-yard freestyle (52.00), and the 100-yard butterfly (57.12). The 50 freestyle time was good for a NCAA Selection Time and the 100 freestyle time was a NCAA B-cut time.
Sydney Hallmark (So., Cedarburg, Wis.) earned two individual all-conference awards. She place third in each the 500-yard freestyle (5:07.64), and the mile (17:54.05). Linnea Rizzo (So., Woodbury, Minn.) finished ahead of Hallmark in the mile with a time of 17:40.65, an all-conference second place finish.
Hayley Booher (Sr., Warren, Vt.) also recorded two individual all-conference times. She was third in each the 200-yard backstroke (1:06.76) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:08.57).
Gustavus tallied five all-conference relay awards:
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Kennedy Holwerda (Jr., Willmar, Minn.), Reilly, Nicole Lohman (Sr., North Mankato, Minn.), and Maggie Webster (So., Apple Valley, Minn.) turned in a NCAA Selection time of 1:34.29 for a second place finish.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Lohman, Holwerda, Webster, and Reilly also grabbed a second place finish with a time of 3:33.31.
Another runner-up finish came from the 800-yard freestyle relay team of Lohman, Hallmark, Haley Pesik (So., Eagan, Minn.), and Webster, finishing at 7:49.19.
The team of Booher, Maddie Westendorp (Fy., St. Michael, Minn.), Reilly, and Webster earned a NCAA B-cut qualifying time at 1:45.56 to claim a runner-up finish in the 200-yard medley relay.
Finally, the 400-yard medley relay team of Holwerda, Pesik, Reilly, and Lohman finished third at 3:56.74.
Additionally, Mal Carlson (Sr., Lindstrom, Minn.) was selected as a member of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.
