Men’s Hockey Shut Out 4-0 At Concordia

The Gustavus men’s hockey team Friday lost 4-0 at Concordia, dropping to 2-12-4 overall and 1-7-1 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Cobbers improve to 10-7-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the league.

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team Friday lost 4-0 at Concordia, dropping to 2-12-4 overall and 1-7-1 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Cobbers improve to 10-7-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the league.

The home team scored what proved to be the game winner at the 12:24 mark of the first period and led 1-0 after the first 20 minutes. Concordia added three more goals in the second frame; one on a power play and the other two even strengths. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the third.

Gustavus outshot the Cobbers 40-29, including an 18-5 spread in the third period, but was unable to score in just its second shutout of the season. The Gusties went 0-for-5 on the power play, while the Cobbers converted on their one chance on the man advantage. The Black and Gold also controlled the dots, winning the faceoff battle 44-22.

Erik Johnson (Sr., Sauk Rapids, Minn.) suffered the loss after making 25 saves. Drew Aspinwall (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.) fired the most shots on goal with six.

The Gusties and Cobbers conclude the series at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Moorhead Sports Center Hockey Arena.
