Gustavus Hill Crew To Host Teddy Bear Toss Benefit February 11 Posted on January 25th, 2017 by

ST. PETER, Minn. – Gustavus Adolphus College’s student fan organization, The Hill Crew, is holding its inaugural Teddy Bear Toss benefit on Saturday, February 11 at 7 p.m. as the Gustavus men’s hockey team hosts Bethel University.

Attendees who bring a new teddy bear or stuffed animal will receive free admission to the game, which will benefit Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare and Partners for Affordable Housing in Mankato. After the Gusties score their first goal, fans will throw their teddy bears and stuffed animals onto the ice, where they will be collected and donated to the two Mankato organizations.

“It’s no surprise how much happiness a teddy bear can bring to our children,” said Libby Utter, Executive Director of Gillette Children’s Foundation. “Patients come from all over to receive treatment for some of the most complex medical conditions. It’s nice to be able to give them something cuddly to help brighten their stay.”

“It should be a fun event and provide something of comfort to the kids staying at our shelters and in our Transitional Housing Program,” Partners for Affordable Housing Communications and Volunteer Coordinator Liz Zaruba added.

The Hill Crew creates an energetic fan experience on campus.

Organized entirely by Hill Crew students, the event will take place at the Don Roberts Ice Rink in Lund Center on the Gustavus campus. The general public is encouraged to attend to support the two community organizations.

“Partners for Affordable Housing is excited about this event and partnership with Gustavus. We are so thankful and appreciative of the support from our local community,” Zaruba said.
