NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s swimming & diving team fell by a score of 151-137 Friday evening in a dual meet with Carleton College at Thorpe Pool.

“It was a great battle the whole night,” said Head Coach Jon Carlson. “In a dual meet, first places are everything. We did a great job of hanging with them as long as we did. It really came down to the last relay and it was a great race. The kids swam great, I am very pleased with where they’re at.”

Leading the way for the Gusties was Hayley Booher (Sr., Warren, Vt.), who captured two first place finishes. Her time of 2:15.65 in the 200-yard individual medley was five seconds ahead of the next closest competitor to take first place. She also took the crown in the 100-yard backstroke, coming in at 1:01.61 with her teammate, Kennedy Holwerda (Jr., Willmar, Minn.) finishing just a second behind at 1:02.35. Booher also earned a runner-up finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:14.78.

Gustavus brought in two other top finishes. Sydney Hallmark (So., Cedarburg, Wis.) earned the top time in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:21.62. Another first place finish came from Kate Reilly (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) in the 100-yard butterfly. Her time of 59.33 stood as a Thorpe Pool record. Reilly also recorded a second place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54:05.

Additionally, the Black and Gold raced into two runner-up relay finishes. In the 200-yard medley relay, the Gustie squad of Booher, Reilly, Haley Pesik (So., Eagan, Minn.), and Maggie Webster (So., Apple Valley, Minn.) turned in a time of 1:52.26. Also finishing in second place was the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Holwerda, Reilly, Alyssa Lokensgard (Fy., St. Peter, Minn.), and Nicole Lohman (Sr., North Mankato, Minn.) with a time of 1:39.77.

The Gusties return to action next Friday as they host Hamline University at Vic Gustafson Pool. Events are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
