Setting the scene: The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s basketball team continues Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon, traveling to Carleton College.

Gustvaus most recently earned its 14th win of the season Wednesday evening, defeating Bethel University by a score of 62-58. The win sets a program record with 14-straight wins, breaking the previous program record 13-0 start to the season, set by the 2002-03 Gustie squad.

In the polls: The Gusties cracked the D3hoops.com Top 25, marking the first national ranking by the Gusties since Feb. 27, 2007.

The Series: Saturday’s contest marks the 73rd all-time meeting between Gustavus and Carleton with the Gusties holding a 50-22 record over the Knights. Head Coach Laurie Kelly and the Gusties are undefeated against Carleton with a 7-0 record over past four seasons.

Scouting the Knights: Carleton is off to a 1-6 start during Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. The Knights most recently earned their first conference victory of the season, defeating Concordia College by a score of 53-51 overtime win in Moorhead, Minn. on Wednesday. Sophomore forward Cece Leone leads the Knights, averaging 11.2 points per game with a 43.4 field goal shooting percentage.

Gustavus notables:

– The Gusties’ 14-0 start stands as the best start in program history, breaking the previous record holding 2002-03 Gustavus squad who began the season with a 13-0 record before suffering its first loss.

– Gustavus ranks first in the MIAC in free throw percentage (79.7%), assists per game (17.4), and steals per game with (12.9).

– In Wednesday win at Bethel, the Gusties trailed at halftime for the first time this season.

– Wedneday’s win at Bethel marks Head Coach Laurie Kelly’s 80th win at Gustavus.

Mikayla Miller (Jr., Goodhue, Minn.) tallied 15 points at Bethel, passing Betty Wannarka (1980-84) on the career scoring leaderboard to now sit at eighth alltime.

– Mikayla Miller and Miranda Rice (Jr., Forest Lake, Minn.) rank as the second and fourth leading scorers in the MIAC, Miller averaging 17.3 points per game and Rice averaging 16.7.

– Miranda Rice ranks second in the MIAC with a 59.0 field goal percentage. Hannah Howard (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) trails right behind Howard, shooting 57.1 percent.
