Women’s Hockey Shut Out By No. 3 UW-River Falls

The Gustavus women’s hockey team was shutout for the second time this season Wednesday evening at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The Gustavus women’s hockey team was shutout for the second time this season Wednesday evening at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

The Gusties fell by a score of 3-0 to the No. 3 ranked Falcons, falling to 6-4-1 overall on the season.

After a scoreless first period, the Gusties had outshot UW-River Falls 8-7.

Near the halfway mark of the second period, Paulina Scheid (Fy., Stillwater, Minn.) took a hooking penalty to put the Falcons on the man advantage. UW-River Falls senior forward Dani Sibley cashed in on the Gustie penalty, notching her national leading 13th goal of the season and the eventual game-winner.

UW-River Falls added two even strength tallies in the third to push the lead to 3-0.

Gustavus was unable to find success in three power play opportunities and wasn’t able to put a goal past UW-River Falls netminder Angie Hall, despite recording 22 shots on goal. The Falcons outshot the Gusties, 23-22.

Amanda DiNella (So., Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.) made 20 saves in goal and suffered her second loss of the season. Nicole Abraham (Fy., St. Paul, Minn.) led the Gusties with four shots on goal.

The Gusties will look to salvage a series split come this weekend, as they host UW-River Falls at Don Roberts Ice Rink Saturday at 2 p.m.
