ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Mikayla Miller (Jr., Goodhue, Minn.) of the Gustavus women’s basketball team has been recognized as the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Division III National Player of the Week.
Miller, a 5-8 junior guard from Goodhue, Minn., averaged 30.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 8.0 steals in leading the Gusties (5-0) to two victories. In a 67-47 win over the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Tuesday, Miller scored a career-high 34 points (12-of-22 FG, 7-of-8 FT). She added five rebounds, two assists and eight steals. Then, on Saturday in an 83-71 victory over Buena Vista University, Miller totaled 26 points (6-of-13 FG, 12-of-12 FT), four rebounds, five assists, and another eight steals. Currently ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division III in steals per game (6.2), Miller was also chosen Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Player of the Week.
Each Tuesday, the USBWA is selecting men’s and women’s Division III National Players of the Week. This is the third season that the USBWA will recognize national players of the week from Division III.
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. With some 900 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball. It has selected an All-America team since the 1956-57 season.
