Men’s Hockey Shut Out At Augsburg, 3-0

The Gustavus men’s hockey team lost a 3-0 decision to No. 10-ranked Augsburg on Friday night, falling to 1-5-1 overall and 0-3 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Auggies remain unbeaten at 6-0-1 overall and 1-0 in the league.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team lost a 3-0 decision to No. 10-ranked Augsburg on Friday night, falling to 1-5-1 overall and 0-3 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Auggies remain unbeaten at 6-0-1 overall and 1-0 in the league.

After a scoreless first period where Gustavus outshot Augsburg 12-11, the home team scored what proved to be the game-winner at the 9:39 mark of the second period on a power play. Nearly four minutes later the Auggies tacked on an even-strength goal and held on to a 2-0 advantage at the second intermission. The home team outshot the Gusties 17-9 in the second 20 minutes.

Trailing 2-0 late in the game, the Gusties pulled goalie Chris Amsden (So., St. Peter, Minn.) and the Auggies were able to score an empty-netter, putting the game out of reach in the final seconds.

Gustavus went 0-for-4 on the man-advantage, while the Auggies capitalized on one of four power plays. Augsburg also outshot the Gusties 35-30.

Amsden made 32 saves between the pipes, while his counterpart, Jordyn Kaufer, completed the shutout with 30 saves.

Gustavus wraps up the series with Augsburg at 5:05 p.m. tomorrow at Don Roberts Ice Rink. The entire day is dedicated to the 75th season of hockey at Gustavus with a special tribute to Don Roberts at 1 p.m. All are welcome to the celebration of life service at Christ Chapel.
