Men’s Hockey Drops 2-1 Decision At UW-Stout

The Gustavus men’s hockey team suffered a 2-1 setback Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, dropping to 1-2-1 on the season.

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team suffered a 2-1 setback Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, dropping to 1-2-1 on the season.

After two scoreless periods, the Gusties took the lead at the 8:47 mark of the third on a goal by Jake Bushey (Jr., Duluth, Minn.), his first of the season, assisted by Colin Hernon (Jr., Bloomington, Minn.). Five minutes later, the Blue Devils netted the equalizer and with 2:15 remaining in the game, UW-Stout scored the game-winner and held on for the non-conference victory.

Erik Johnson (Sr., Sauk Rapids, Minn.) suffered the loss after making 31 saves. The Blue Devils outshot the Gusties 33-27, including a 15-5 advantage in the third period. The Gusties went 0-for-5 on the power play, while the Blue Devils were unsuccessful on the man-advantage in three tries.

Gustavus begins Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play next week with a series against St. Thomas. Friday’s game is at 7:05 p.m. in St. Peter, while Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. game is in St. Paul.
