ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s soccer team concludes the regular season at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Hamline University. The Gusties enter the game with a 6-8-1 overall record and 5-3-1 mark in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and are fighting for potentially the No. 2 seed in the league playoffs, while Hamline enters at 9-5-2 overall and 3-4-2 in the conference, and is battling for a spot in the postseason having not secured a spot yet.

Gustavus secured a playoff bid Tuesday with a 2-0 win over Concordia in St. Peter. Patrick Roth (Sr., Stillwater, Minn.) got the Gusties on the board early, scoring his fourth goal of the year off a corner kick 5:35 into the game. Fifteen minutes later, Matt Murakami (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) gave the Black and Gold a 2-0 advantage with his sixth goal of the season, assisted by Matt Ouren (So., North Mankato, Minn.), and that’s all the Gusties needed for the victory. Matt Bateman (So., Savage, Minn.) improved to 5-3-0 after making four saves, while recording his fourth shutout of the season.
After 15 games this season, Murakami leads the Gusties with 15 points (4th/MIAC) on six goals (4th/MIAC) and three assists. Bateman has seen the most time in goal for Gustavus, logging 872:02 with a 0.93 goals against average and .855 save percentage (3rd/MIAC).
Hamline most recently lost 2-0 at Bethel University on Tuesday. Adam King is the Pipers’ leading scorer with 15 points on five goals and five assists. Ben Sorenson matches King’s goal count with five as well. Dean Isaacson has played 16 games between the posts with a 0.85 goals against average, .797 save percentage, and an 8-5-2 record.
