ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s soccer team continues Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play today as it hosts Saint John’s University at 4 p.m. The Gusties are riding a three-game win streak and hold a 4-7-1 overall record and 3-2-1 mark in the league, while the Johnnies are 3-5-3 overall and 2-2-1 in the MIAC. Gustavus is currently tied for third in the MIAC standings, while Saint John’s is tied for sixth.

The Gusties are coming off their third-straight conference win last Saturday at Augsburg, coming out with a 2-1 victory in overtime. Luke Laurich (Fy., Batavia, Ill.) scored his third goal of the season in the 34th minute and Arthur Parens (So., Wayzata, Minn.) scored his second game-winning goal of the season 1:31 into the overtime period. One week removed from earning MIAC Athlete of the Week, Matt Bateman (So., Savage, Minn.) improved to 3-2-0 after making four saves against the Auggies. After 12 games this season, Matt Murakami (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) leads the team with eight points on three goals and two assists. Bateman has made seven starts with a 1.20 goals against average and .830 save percentage.

The Johnnies are coming off a 3-1 loss against Bethel University on Saturday in Collegeville, Minn. The lone Saint John’s goal came off the foot of Dylan Lehrer in the 77th minute. Nicholas French suffered the loss in goal after making one save. After 11 games this season, Lehrer is the team’s leading scorer with four goals and two assists for 10 points. French has started 10 games in goal with a 1.77 goals against average, .774 save percentage, and a 3-4-3 record.
