ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s soccer team gets back into conference play Saturday afternoon as they take on the No. 10 ranked University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn.

The 5-0-1 (0-0-1 MIAC) Tommies host the 4-1-2 (1-1 MIAC) Gusties at 1 p.m.

Gustavus played two overtimes to end in a 1-1 tie against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Thursday in Eau Claire, Wis. A late goal with under 10 seconds remaining allowed the Blugolds to pull even with the Gusties. Emily Skogseth (So., Burnsville, Minn.) scored the lone goal for the Gusties, tieing for the team lead with two on the season.

The Black and Gold have found success with its team depth and balanced scoring. 15 Gusties have found their name on the scoring sheet and 93 percent of those have at least two points on the season. Gustavus owns 13 players that have found the back of the net through six games. Skogseth and Paula Miller (Jr., Rapid City, S.D.) share the team scoring lead with two goals and one assist each.

Gustavus owns a 14-20-2 all-time record against St. Thomas. Last season, the Gusties won both games over the Tommies, last being the 1-0 victory in the MIAC Playoff Championship.

St. Thomas is coming off a 1-1 draw at the College of Saint Benedict, in which they allowed their first goal of the season. The Tommies are undefeated and ranked No. 10 in the latest NCAA Division III Coach’s Poll, the only MIAC school present in the rankings. Goalkeeper Tarynn Theilig sits atop the MIAC leaders with four shutouts, 30 saves, a 0.16 goals against average and a .968 save percentage.
