HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Gustavus men’s golf team jumped into 12th place at the NCAA Division III Fall Preview on Monday, shooting a second round score of 306 for a two-round total of 610 (+34). Huntingdon College moved into the lead with a total score of 575, while Mary Hardin-Baylor and Wittenberg are tied for second with scores of 593.
“After a slow start in yesterday’s round, today we came out very strong but had a very poor last nine holes,” Assistant Coach Randy Stuckey said. “Although we moved up in our placing we had a great opportunity to put ourselves in a much better place. Tomorrow our guys need to find a way to score and finish the tournament catching some people in the field.”
Chris Captain (Jr., Rochester, Minn.) led the Gusties once again, carding a two-under par 70, including three birdies. After two rounds, Captain moved up 29 spots from yesterday on the leaderboard and is tied for sixth place with a score of 145, three strokes behind the leaders Will Thrash and Addison Lambeth of Huntingdon College.
Max Savini (So., Ramsey, Minn.) shot a 75 today and sits in a tie for 27th place at 151. Ben Hauge (Fy., Ramsey, Minn.) is in 71st place with a 77-81-158, while Alec Aunan (Jr., Rock Island, Ill.) and Alex Koopmeiners (Sr., St. Cloud, Minn.) are tied for 77th with scores of 76-84-160 and 80-80-160, respectively.
The NCAA Preview, played at Mission Inn Resort, concludes tomorrow.
