ST. PETER, Minn. – Gustavus men’s and women’s cross country teams travel to Northfield, Minn. Saturday to compete in the St. Olaf College Invitational at the St. Olaf Cross Country Trails. The women will run the 6k at 10 a.m. and the men will run the 8k at 11 a.m.
Last weekend Gustavus hosted the Gustie Alumni Meet. Thomas Knobbe (Sr., Decorah, Iowa) finished first on the men’s side with a career-best 5k time of 15:53.2. For his performance, Knobbe was awarded MIAC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week.
The Gustie men took first place with 21 total teams points ahead of Saint John’s University and the Gustavus Alumni.
Alumni Marit Sonnesyn took the crown on the women’s side as she posted a time of 19:54.4. Sadie Novak-Klug (Jr., Waseca, Minn.) turned in a runner-up time of 20:25.1. The Gustie women finished 13 team points ahead of the Alumni.
A year ago at the St. Olaf Invite, the men’s team place took an eighth place finish while the Gustie women earned a six place finish out of 20 teams.
