UPDATE (12:49 p.m. May 25): Due to the predicted severe weather Thursday afternoon and evening, the Division III Track and Field and Cross Country Committee has decided to adjust the championship schedule of events for Thursday. Marit Sonnesyn is competing in the 10k, which will now begin at 4:35 p.m.
ST. PETER, Minn. – The NCAA announced the accepted entries to the Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships and two Gustavus women’s athletes are set to compete at the national event this week. Representing the Gusties on the national stage are senior distance runner Marit Sonnesyn (Plymouth, Minn.) and senior thrower Sarah Swanson (Fairbanks, Alaska).
Sonnesyn will compete in the 10k where she is seeded 21st out of 22 with a time of 36:10.38, while Swanson will compete in the shot put where she is seeded 17th out of 22 with a throw of 13.62 meters.
The NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships is hosted by Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. The national meet begins Thursday and goes through Saturday. Sonnesyn’s event starts at 4:35 p.m. Thursday and Swanson’s event begins at 12 p.m. Friday.
