Tennis Teams To Host MIAC Playoff Semifinals This Afternoon, Tomorrow Posted on May 5th, 2016 by

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s and women’s tennis teams are set to host the MIAC Playoff Semifinals this afternoon and Friday afternoon at the Brown Outdoor Tennis Complex. The women, seeded No. 2, host No. 3-seeded University of St. Thomas on Thursday at 3:30 p.m., while the men, seeded No. 1, host No. 4-seeded Saint John’s University on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

The Gustie women clinched a share of the MIAC Regular Season Championship this past weekend and earned the No. 2 seed in the conference playoff. After receiving a first round bye, Gustavus now takes on the third-seeded Tommies who defeated No. 6 seed St. Catherine University 7-2 this past Tuesday in St. Paul. During the regular season, the Gusties defeated St. Thomas 8-1, but Thursday’s match figures to be plenty competitive, as the Tommies return their No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles player who was injured during the teams’ regular season bout.

The men’s team earned their 28th consecutive MIAC Regular Season Title on April 23 when it defeated Carleton College 8-1. After posting a 9-0 conference mark in the regular season, Gustavus received the No. 1 seed and a first round bye, meaning it won’t have played outside competition for 13 days heading into Friday’s match with the Johnnies. In the teams’ regular season match on February 13, Gustavus came out on top 9-0.
