ST. PAUL, Minn. – For the second consecutive season, the Gustavus Adolphus College women’s tennis team earned the MIAC Regular Season Championship, blanking Macalester College 9-0 on Sunday at the Hayden Tennis Courts. The win pushed the Gusties’ final regular season record to 19-7, including a 9-1 mark in the conference, putting them in a three-way tie with Carleton College and the University of St. Thomas who also each finished 9-1.

The conference championship is the 22nd for Coach Jon Carlson in his 26 seasons at the helm of the women’s tennis program, and the head coach has compiled a MIAC record of 254-7. The win also clinched the Gusties the No. 2 seed in the MIAC Playoffs that begin Tuesday. Gustavus has a first-round bye, and will take on the winner of St. Thomas and St. Catherine University on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at the Brown Outdoor Tennis Complex.

“We’re thrilled to have earned conference championship honors again,” said Carlson. “With that said, our match with Carleton yesterday proved that there is still plenty of work to do within the MIAC in order to reach our goal of making the national tournament. We’re excited to have a great few days of practice before beginning playoffs on Thursday.”
