MADISON, Wis. – After one day of play at the competitive Midwest Invitational, the Gustavus Adolphus College women’s tennis team finds itself in the running for a top-5 finish after going 1-1 on Friday at the Nielsen Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Wisconsin. The Gusties defeated Augustana College (Ill.) 7-2 in their first round matchup before falling to No. 9 Washington University in St. Louis 7-2 later in the day. The 1-1 split moves Gustavus’s overall record to 11-5.
“Our team really stepped up and showed great toughness today against two very good teams in Augustana and Washington University,” said Coach Jon Carlson. “I thought we learned a lot from both our matches today, especially against WashU, despite the final score. I’m excited to have two more very competitive matches on our schedule tomorrow, and expect our team to come away with several more great experiences.”
The Gusties are back in action tomorrow with another top-ranked opponent as they take on No. 23 Denison University at 1 p.m.
