John Lundquist went 3-for-5 with two RBI on Saturday at the Tucson Invite.

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Gustavus baseball team suffered two more losses at the Tucson Invite on Saturday, losing 7-3 to Luther and 19-4 to Carthage to fall to 2-6 overall on the season.

Luther scored two runs in the third inning and never trailed, resulting in a 7-3 victory. The Norse gained a 2-0 advantage in the third after three singles, and tacked on two more in the seventh and three in the eighth for a three-run win.

The Gusties ended the shutout in the ninth frame with a trio of runs. Sam Warner (Sr., Chanhassen, Minn.) doubled, John Lundquist (So., Rochester, Minn.) singled, and both scored on a double by Brock Peterson (So., Cannon Falls, Minn.). Peterson then scored on a single off the bat of Neil Engler (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.).

Adam Stockwell (Fy., St. Paul, Minn.) suffered the loss in his first collegiate appearance. He lasted six and one-third innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits with a pair of strikeouts and walks. Sam Carlson (Jr., St. James, Minn.) and Casey Lewandoski (So., Fairbanks, Alaska) also saw time on the hill. Lundquist led the Gusties at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.

The Gusties surrendered eight runs in the second frame and could not dig out of the hole, leading to a 15-run loss in seven innings.

Gustavus scored a run in the first inning after Josh Chatfield (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn.) reached on an error and later scored on a single by Lundquist. The second Gustavus run came in the fifth after a bases-loaded walk. And two more crossed home in the seventh after four hits.

Gustavus sent four pitchers to the mound throughout the game – Kyle Pinke (Jr., St. James, Minn.) started, followed by Sam Archer (Fy., Zimmerman, Minn), Michael Dunne (Fy., Chisago, City, Minn.), and Hayden Meyer (Fy., Waconia, Minn.). Chatfield (2-4, 2 R, RBI) and Logan Thomas (Jr., Lake City, Minn.) (2-3, R) led the Gusties at the plate.

Gustavus resumes play the Tucson Invite on Monday.
