Men’s Tennis Earns Wins Over MIAC Foes St. Thomas, Saint Mary’s Posted on February 20th, 2016 by

ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s tennis team swept a pair of MIAC foes on Saturday, taking down the University of St. Thomas 8-1 at the Swanson Tennis Center, and also earning a 7-2 win over Saint Mary’s University at the Winona Tennis Center. With the victories, the Gusties move to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the MIAC.

With half its lineup remaining in St. Peter, Gustavus was able to roll against the Tommies, with Zach Ekstein (So., Eagan, Minn.), Tommy Entwistle (So., Sioux Falls, Minn.), Mitch Elofson (Sr., St. Peter, Minn.), and David Hagberg (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) each earning singles and doubles victories. Mohanad Alhouni (So., Tripoli, Libya) and Andres Saenz (Sr., Cancun, Mexico) picked up singles wins for the Gusties at the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively.

In Winona, Gustavus picked up wins in 2-of-3 doubles matches and 5-of-6 singles. Mason Bultje (So., Mankato, Minn.), Chase Johnson (Fy., Hopkins, Minn.), and Patrick Whaling (Fy., Richmond, Va.) each earned singles and doubles victories for the Black and Gold. Gabe Steinwand (So., Moorhead, Minn.) and Joakim Ekfeldt (So., Stokholm, Sweden) put up victories at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, respectively, while Taylor Parr (So., Eden Prairie, Minn.) paired with Bultje for a 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

Gustavus is back in action with another busy weekend next Saturday. The Gusties host conference opponents Bethel and Concordia at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. and finish off their day with a non-conference match with Morningside College at 7:30 p.m.
