ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s hockey team fell to Bethel University in their second meeting of the weekend on Saturday afternoon at Don Roberts Ice Rink. Bethel took the win with a score of 3-2, bringing the Royals to 12-9-2 overall and 10-4-2 in the MIAC and dropping the Gusties to 8-11-4 overall and 7-6-3 in the league.

Gustavus set the tone for scoring with Erica Power (So., Lakeville, Minn.) rebounding a shot from Emily Reibert (Sr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and getting it into the net after 46 seconds of play in the first period. Bethel was unable to answer the Gustavus goal until early in the second period when Sarina Goos scored on the power play. Gustavus regained the lead shortly after with a goal by Laine Fisher (Fy., Northfield, Minn.), her fourth of the season. Later in the second period, Bethel’s Caroline Kivisto took advantage of the power play to tie the game 2-2. The Royals took the lead after 4:26 in the third period with a goal by Lauren Kolak. The Gusties were unable to get a shot in the net during the third period.

Gustavus outshot its opponent 41-13, but was not able to get the puck past Bethel goalie Michelle Klimstra. This marks the 11th game this season in which Gustavus outshot its opponent but failed to capture the win. Klimstra earned the win, blocking 39 of the 41 shots. Gustavus goalie Amanda DiNella (Fy., Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.) took the loss and managed 10 saves during the game.

The Gusties compete next weekend in a series against Hamline University, with game one at 7 p.m. at Drake Arena in St. Paul, Minn.
