ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s tennis team continued its stellar start to the season on Saturday, as it swept both the Univeristy of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Saint John’s University 9-0. The Gusties took down the Blugolds Saturday morning at the Swanson Tennis Center before making their way north to defeat the Johnnies in Sartell, Minn. The wins bump Gustavus to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the MIAC.

Mohanad Alhouni (So., Tripoli, Libya) made his return to the lineup and was one of four Gusties to earn four victories in both singles and doubles throughout the day. Andres Saenz (Jr., Cancun, Mexico, Zach Ekstein (So., Eagan, Minn.), Mitch Elofson (Sr., St. Peter, Minn.), and Tommy Entwistle (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) were the others, and each won their singles matches in straight sets, aside from Elofson, whose opponent from UW-Eau Claire defaulted midway through the first set.

Gabe Steinwand (So., Moorhead, Minn.) earned both Gustie victories at No. 6 singles in straight sets, while David Hagberg (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) paired with Elofson at No. 3 doubles in both matches and came away with wins in each.

The Gusties return to action next Saturday with a pair of MIAC matches. Gustavus hosts the University of St. Thomas at 10 a.m. and travels to Winona, Minn. for a matchup with Saint Mary’s University at noon.
