MINNEAPOLIS – The Gustavus men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams kicked off the Minnesota Challenge – hosted by the University of Minnesota – with 10 events on Friday evening at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
On the women’s side, the 200 free relay team of Kate Reilly (So., Hastings, Minn.), Nicole Lohman (Jr., North Mankato, Minn.), Maggie Webster (Fy., Apple Valley, Minn.) and Tarin Anding (Sr., Sartell, Minn.) took fifth with a time of 1:39.05. Reilly also impressed in the 50 free, taking fifth place in 24.30. Haley Pesik (Fy., Eagan, Minn.) posted the team’s fastest 500 free time at 5:26.72. Linnea Rizzo (Fy., Woodbury, Minn.) came in 16th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:18.54. And in the 400 medley relay, Kennedy Holwerda (So., Willmar, Minn.), Anding, Reilly and Lohman took sixth in 4:05.12.
For the men, the 200 free relay team of Seth Berry (So., Bloomington, Minn.), Adam Peters (Jr., Montevideo, Minn.), Tim Anderson (Sr., Mendota Heights, Minn.) and Jeffrey Nelson (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.) took 10th in 1:28.13. Anderson also took 28th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.28, while Berry took 25th in the 50 free in 22.00. In the 500 free, Caleb Torvik (Fy., Savage, Minn.) took 36th in 5:04.58. And the 400 medley relay team of Frankie Zobitz (Fy., White Bear Lake, Minn.), Tanner Sonnek (Fy., North Mankato, Minn.), Zach Holman (Fy., Mayer, Minn.) and Nelson took ninth in 3:42.74.
The meet resumes at 9 a.m. tomorrow with the women’s one-meter and men’s three-meter diving.
