COON RAPIDS, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team remains in third place following the second round of the MIAC Championships at Bunker Hill Golf Course. The Gusties tallied a score of 301 on day two, a three shot improvement from their score of 304 yesterday, giving them a 605 after two days. The University of St. Thomas remains in second place with 600, while Augsburg College still leads the field with 590.
“We got off to a pretty good start today, but our putters got quiet after hitting some good shots,” said Coach Scott Moe. “The good thing is, we didn’t lose too much ground. 15 shots is doable, as long as we get off to a good start.”
Senior Andrew Krasaway (Hermantown, Minn.) led the Gusties in the second round, scoring a 74 to put him at 150 (+6) over the course of the tournament, good for a tie for sixth in the individual standings. Max Savini (Fy., Anoka, Minn.) still leads Gustavus overall with a 149 (+5) after scoring a 75 on day two, which puts him in sole possession of fifth place. Chris Captain (So., Rochester, Minn.) also shot a 75 on day two and is now in a tie for 12th place. Alec Aunan (So., Rock Island, Ill.) shot another 77, and now sits in a tie for 17th with a 154. Matt Spier (Sr., Prior Lake, Minn.) shot an 80 in round two, and now sits in a tie for 33rd with 159.
“I love that our guys are not pleased…it means they will be hungry and ready to get after it tomorrow,” said Moe. “Every one of our players can go low, so that sets us up for a great final round. We can’t control what any other teams do, so we need to post some good numbers early and hopefully put the heat on a little. We’re excited for a great finish.”
The MIAC Championships will conclude tomorrow, with the first tee time beginning at 9 a.m.
