Alyssa Taylor posted attack percentages of .429 and .786 in the two wins Friday at the Johnson & Wales Tournament.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Gustavus Adolphus volleyball team started its trip to the East Coast on the right foot, claiming two victories Friday at the Johnson & Wales Tournament. The Gusties defeated both Western Connecticut State University and Salve Regina University in straight sets.

Against Western Connecticut State, the Black and Gold won by scores of 25-16, 25-7 and 27-25.

Alyssa Taylor (Sr., Trimont, Minn.) led the Gustie offense with 10 kills on 21 attempts and one error for a .429 attack percentage. Taylor also had a game-high four solo blocks. Lauren Hanson (Fy., Redwood Falls, Minn.) was next in line on offense with eight kills.

Abby Leitch (So., Mankato, Minn.) and Anne Ladwig (So., Albert Lea, Minn.) both recorded double digit digs with 13 and 10, respectively.

Nora Holtan (Fy., Rochester, Minn.) contributed a team-high 23 assists.

The Gusties posted a .261 team attack percentage, while holding the Colonials to a pedestrian .019 attack rate. WCSU committed 17 attack errors and went 19-for-108 on the kill.

The match took only an hour and nine minutes.

The second match of the night featured another quick win, this time in an hour and five minutes. The Gusties beat Salve Regina by scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-10.

Taylor once again paced the Gustavus offense with 11 kills on 14 attempts and no errors for an impressive .786 attack percentage.

Holtan was again the key contributor with a team-high 16 assists.

The defense wasn’t pressured much and tallied 26 digs led by Becca Woodstra (Sr., Minnetonka, Minn.) and Leitch with five each.

The Gustie offense went 30-for-60 on the kill with five errors for a .417 attack rate, while the Seahawks posted a .141 attack percentage, going 24-for-78 with 13 errors.

No play-by-play stats are available for either match.

Gustavus improves to 4-2 overall and continues play at the Johnson & Wales Tournament Saturday. The Gusties take on Connecticut College at 12 p.m. followed by a 4 p.m. match against Roger Williams University.
